Hi all,
i noticed this whining sound from my car a few weeks ago but didnt take much notice. However, its starting to get on me tits The whining sounds increases with the revs and seems to be coming from the gearbox/upfront somewhere - i cant really pin point it.
Although all my mates seem to think that i have a turbo lol
I thought it could be the water pump, but ive had it go before (and had it changed a few months back) and it doesn't feel like it has gone again.
Anyone got any ideas what it could be?
cheers all

yea i thought that as well.....but when the drive belt is slipping, doesnt it make that awful screech that you can head a mile away?
when i mean whine, i mean whine....its not that loud, but its noticeable and sounds like the interference you get on radio's when the car revs increase.
i'll have a butchers tho and check it

Also, when im getting in 5k's on the revs the thing gets loud and its bloody noticeable then...thats when one of mates in the back said "man its a beast of a car, you've got that whining sound from the turbo" lol obviously it isnt a turbo and its only a 1.2 lol

checks the belt using the haynes manual...seems ok
well it cant be the clutch in my case coz ive only just had that done, about 3 weeks ago.
it doesnt seem to be effecting the car in anyway, but knowing my luck it will be the gearbox or some major fault
Oh wells....i might go take it to my local garage and see what they say.

nope, all the bloody time Although the faster you get (higher revs) the louder it gets and starts to sound like a jet engine whine.

I just got my Corsa C Facelift and does it.
Basically it sounds like an aeroplanes engines getting faster.
I thinkits just the genral sound of the belt. And nothing to worry about!
cos mines only 2 weeks old and it makes that noise

Hi mate just read bout the wining sound from ya car,if it is the fan/alternator belt which is common, theres easy way to find out when engine running at idle pour water on belt if it the belt it will become silent instantly then after while the noise will start again,if not the belt nothing will happen but putting water on ya belt wont hert it,its only water ive done it loads of times.

Hi there, well thats even easier to diagnose.its ya thrust bearing!(bearing that presses against your clutch fingers to release a friction plate and break drive enabling gear change)
Costs bout £10 and takes bout 30 mins to change, need to take clutch out to do this and yes taking the clutch out is all in the 30 mins(when u konw how!) NO PROBLEM!!!!

nah it aint the clutch in my case, just had it done about 3 weeks ago.
It only happens when i put my foot to the floor and rev the the shits outta the thing.
Still yet to find out what the problem is ive had my head in the engine bay and i still cant work out where it coming from - doesnt sound like its coming from the belt either
Oh wells, im not gonna be driving it for a few days so ill get it sorted sometime time this week.
cheers all

mine whines too, i think it's my clutch too -
when im at idle in neutral ( clutch not pressed) i get a whining/humming noise, it whines when i rev it, and when i driving it too.
Thought it was my belt, but checked it loadsa times and it's ok.
30 mins to change a clutch aye, might have a butchers, i've got 1.4 16v though - does the engine need to come out to get the clutch out?
matt
