Can anyone help?

Was raining this morning and car was idling like a bag of shite.

sounded like a tank spluttering.

settled down a bit after about 10 mins (engine warmed up) but hten going along the motorway half an hour later and accelerator seemed to drain power as though i was braking.

Had to drop to third gear on low revs just to keep going at about 35- 40

this happened a while ago and i put it down to the cheap conefilter i had on being blocked (maybe).

Just seems like car is being starved of something.

Sounds like damp in the ignition system, and dropping on to 3cyls. You have a dis pack or a Dizzy?? It's not likely to be water in the engine from the cone, less it's scrapping the ground! maybe time for a new dizzy/leads etc...

Damp HT/ignition leads mate. Happened to me once on the motorway too, almost crapped me pants! Had to pull over onto the hard shoulder to let the engine temp dry the fcukers out coz I couldnt restart the car.

dont forget to check the condition of the distributor cap. Unclip it and look inside and the metal electrodes at the end. If they are dirty, or worn, either clean as much as you can or get a new one from halfords.
