Thats not a common problem my friend.......a cambelt should never come loose just by going round a roundabout/corner.
Sounds like u had other problems (pulleys, belt going, tensioners etc)
What engine is it? And how long after the belt went did the car carry on in gear for?
The usually will require a head rebuild, new valves, possibly pistons, and bore's regrinding, depending on the internal damage.
If its a later 16v model, then yes, start crying!!

When my cambelt snapped is fooked all 16valves amongst many other things. Cost me £800 to sort, but was never the same again. Ended up buying a new lump a year later( Was worth it though)

if the tensioner or pupm goes its as good as ya belt snapping, i just suggested a cause if it aint snapped something else would have gone, i think your engine will be fooked, take the head of and have a look

No. It fell off the rollers as the garage that did it before really bodged it.
