Doubt you could swap the heads, cos the hi torq is a distributorless one the 1.2 has a distributor. If you got a non- hi torq, it would be tricky to put the head w/ manifolds on the 1.2 even though, everything would connect to it (same type of plugs etc).
When I get my 1.2 gasket off, I'll compare to the 1.4 one and let you know.

you can put the 1.2 head on the 1.4. loads of posts about this on migweb.

changes the compression ratio. also apparently the 1.2 has a better design. been loads of posts on mig, lots of novas have done this.

Nope, there not all distrobuterless... Mine had a dizzy & was a hi-tork (C14NZ)... It mainly depends on the version of the NZ if it has a dizzy or not (there are 3 different versions of the C14NZ according to vaux, 2 had distrobutors (early models) and the later had a distrobuterless igntion system (newest)).
If it is distrobuterless, you can actually fit a 1.6i head from a Nova on the 1.4 block, as it is pretty much the same just a few differences (believe me I seen it done). Not much of a gain tho bhp wise.

this is true. vaux were lazy designing the 1.4 head for the SPi's

I have the engine loom & ecu for a 1.4 with a distrobutor in the garage somewhere, but has been there for about 10 months!

Hmm, what about using the 1.2 valve section and manifolds, but the 1.4 cam top half?

It's not the Spi head you use. It's the 1.2 carb head, and then the 1.3 SR inlet maniofld. but then you need to make sure it's not runngin lean from the increased VE. but the best heads are the MPI head (round port)

The SPi's and 1.4 SR heads are the same design (sqaure ports) the 1.2 has slightly small chambers.

Yesh it will. but use the cam housing from the 1.4 and all it's lifter and rocker etc.. swap them in to the 1.2 head. it will raise compression slightly, but I duobt it anythign to worry about, might even get a slight boost in perf from it, lol
