Author speakers cutting out

hi

last few weeks the speakers have been cutting out in my car, but when ever i change the volume or track on the cd they come back on again. This makes me think that its a problem with the headunit. Does it sound like the headunit or a short in a wire on the car?

Are running an aftermarket hu or the standard one. I know my standard hu used to cut out as didnt have enought power to run all my speakers.

aftermarket, its been in my car for ages and only started a couple of weeks ago

that wouldnt cause the lot to go off though will it?
