im not sure of the exact speed of an L Reg 1.2 corsa but for the litreage it seems sluggish, your plodding along the motorway in 4th and slip it into 5th and all of a sudden it just looses power and drops from 80 in 4th to 70 in 5th, anyone else had the same problem?
Think the max speed ive had it is 80 and thats only if you have it in 4th gear, 75 if the winds behind it in 5th. 
Ive changed the oil, plugs, leads, filters etc bot getting stumped now on what it could be.

ive had 102 out of mine, 1.2 8v (n reg) but going down a slight hill, got 17s on it now plus ICE, and have only had about 90-95, might be one of those things!!!

do you have big wheels on it? theyre pretty slow anyway mate not much you can do witht hem except go for another lump,mine used to top out at like 90 but 5th gears mainly for economy not pullin or speed

5th is an overdrive gear in that box, so it wont pull you any faster really than you can attain in 4th, but it should be able to hold you at a speed.
Saying that on the flat my 1.2 8v wont do any more than 80 quickly and if i give it time to keep slowly creeping up in speed prob 90 ish
But down a slight incline it can do 100 easy, its just a piss weak engine with a badly ratioed 5th gear tbfh.

^ speaks the truth. Merit Corsa 1.2 8v's had 4 speed box, yours is the same box with an overdrive gear slapped on it. top speed is in 4th gear

Mines a 1.2 8v 4 gear, topa bout 80 but like Vizions says, if i give it time to keep slowly creeping up in speed its gets about 90-95
Recently travelled from Teesside to Peterbrough and must have been doing around 90 all the way home, car didn't sound too healthy the next day like

How many miles on it? I wouldn't throw too much money at that engine.

120,000 miles on the clock 15" tsw's they came on it as was for £650.
Personally im not to keen on it, its a car for now untill i can save for a better one thought with it being a 1.2 it might have a bit of poke, loved me old saxo to bits was onlt a 1.1i and it did 105 easy, this seems hell of sluggish, ive been offered a v12 jag bit of a guzzler at 5.3 litres lol but it'll do as a track car, so corsa's probably going up for sale.

Yes... People tend to have this comparison... oh well it's a 1.2 compared to a 1.1 so it must be quicker. 1.2 8v - has 45 bhp! your 1.1 8v Saxo had around 60 bhp!
a 1.2 16v corsa however has 75 bhp and is a fair bit nippier than the 8v and the saxo.
