wot is the best car to source a 2.0 16v engine from to do a conversion i am thinkin of doin it but want to no if ay some engines r stronger or have built faults and wot to look out for wen gettina donor engine and say if the best engine is out of a gte then wot year is the best was there any changes in the internals of the engine?? alot of questions but would love it if u ppl could help me!!! thanks

get a copy of Total vax and towards the back its got info on all engines and what car etc

get one from a late calibra, cavalier, astra etc. Engines (aslong as its a C20XE) will all be of same quality. there is alot of cheap calibras/cavs about in autotrader for little ££

iv been advised not to get a xe but an xev engine as they are newer and need less work to keep reliabe and can take a bigger ranting but i no they r less power so im stuck!!

thats an ecotec one mate... steer clear... get a redtop mate.....
astra gte16v's, cavaliers GSI's, Calibra 16v's
like topshot said, c20xe or c20xej for the early ones

xej never heard of that 1, y stay clear of the ecotecs ppl at courtney wont fit a red top normally as the engines are old and they cant rely on their reliability so they recomend ecotecs but regal says they will rebuild a red top for me but its still an old engine and wont be as strong

i never knew that till my autodata cd brought it up... early ones are coming up as that and the later ones with auto cam belt tensioners are c20xe...

well u have that... but i cant understand how a rebuilt engine wont be as strong as a new one... ok sensors etc will show their age but as long as the internals are good and the rebuild is done properlyi cant see a problem...
