the one thats wrapped around the pipe as it splits into two

can i take it off?

will it matter, as its crap, rusted and loose.

whats best way to get it off?

the heat shield is normally there to stop something above it or near it getting too hot e,g: the pocket in front of the gear stick. if its ratteling take it off if not then leave it cos u could cause problems..... vauxhall don't just fit things for the sake of it

They do... Have you noticed the coat hangers on the B pillar trim? They are completely useless but they are still there

I find a balsa chisel and a big hammer is the most releiving way to remove them, but keep your face out the way, rust in the eye doesn't help.

Split the rolled seal edges then work down each side, done

rip it off

i unfolded the edges with a hammer and screwdriver then pulled it off

i will be doing this soon aswell. car sounds crap with it vibrating all the time.

did you tighen the joint(not drugs) up? did you fit the sealing ring?

yeah, tighten it all very tight with lots of firegum stuff, it buzzes like a kazoo when i hit 5000rpm

The gasket ring is a dry seal, you shoudl go and buy a new one and not put any firegum, gun gum etc.. on it, just clean the faces with some scothbrite pad and put the new one on there, they only cost £1-2 from any tire/exhaust/qwikfit type place.

Sib's the CAT doesn't have a casing on it, it's gh*y.

btw the wooden base is near 50 years old and also the powercable (the black bit) is from the late 70's

i cut mine off, stopped the rattling and the car hasnt burst into flames, its all good.
