Right click the desktop, goto Arrange Icons By, and untick "Show Desktop Icons".

ive done it, and got my computer on my start menu by the taskbar.

(to do this just drag your my computer icon onto the start menu).

Just makes it a lot tidier.

Or if you actually wat to get rid of the two icons (im assuming its My Computer and My documents) right click each of them on the start menu, and uncheck the box that says "Show on Desktop"

This way, you can keep the recycle bin there for emptying

The Display Control Panel also has the options to turn them on and off. 2 methods, same result.
