There the same, bar the L reg GSi's which are the C16XE (pre-ecotec) all the rest are X16XE's (ecotec) the X16XE's are around 3bhp less than the C16XE's...

Ecotec is branding used by Vauxhall on thier more modern engines that were introduced a few years before tougher emissions regulations were brought into place.

The C16XE and X16XE engines are prety different. The use different engine management, then have different ports in the head and the X16 produces a measly 3 bhp less.

yeah the secondary air pump can be removed if manifold added. gonna disconnect mine soon just to see what it does when disconnected (at a guess... it won't make a whirring noise when car is started from cold)

GSi had C16XE on K,L and early M plates, all the rest are X16XE.
Funnily enough the C16XE is also an ECOTEC engine, and falls under the ECOTEC-4 family

secondary pump is only on when choke is on... so it maybe something to do with that. Just disconnect it (unplug the unit from inside engine bay) and see if that rectifies the problem
