Right, I want to get my xbox 360 on live. Found out that the ethernet port on my cable modem wont work so i got a new box of ebay for £1 (2 mnths wait for ntl) and got the modem theis morning.
plugged it all in and all the lights come on including the ethernet light. however i dont think it ios coming on the internet.
Is it as simple as copying the ip address to make it work? Please help me need to get on live and kick some battlefield ass.

yes i know it was in the orgional post i just wanted to double check, as that sounds like someone on the call centre has fed u full of crap to be honest.
think about it so if ur modem breaks and u cant get any internet connection at all and you ring up and say "my internet it broke i need a new one" you would be happy with them saying " ow sorry mate were understaffed you will have to wait 2 months to get it fixed"
as i dont think so.

not sure really, although when he installed my modem he had to log onto the thing and change lots of settings, which would lead me to believe there not plug and play.
but tbh i still think there taking the piss telling u you would have to wait for 2 month.
any way get in touch with your mate.

i suspect you dont know what you are talking about.
it is more than likely that the DNS address has to be manually assigned within the Xbox

you cant just 'plug-and-play' a new cable modem in
they are activated/assigned via the MAC address of the modem itself, so the second the modem is installed, it must be activated via NTL or whoever (the engineer calls them up)

like paul said it wont work, NTL have activate the mac number (nothing to do with settings as they are sent via TFPT in a new config file everytime the modem syncs with the UBR) and they wont do that as they dont allow 3rd party modems on their network unlike before (about 5yrs ago).
You'll have to call an engineer out and get them to replace the modem - usually its just the case of unplugging one and plugging in the other.
Saying that, have you try the ethernet connection on your pc, might be your xbox that is up the duff?
anyways, just keep phone tech support and get them to do something ASAP
