Recently sold an item on there £70, payment all gone through etc.
Item was sent on Thursday and the ebayer still hasn’t received it and I defiantly sent it. I didn’t have enough money on me for Recorded delivery
Where do I stand on this? Don’t really want to give him a refund because then ill be out of pocket.

£70 and you didn't bother sending it recorded?
1st: he might have received it and claim he didn't and you will have nothing to prove. Refund on its way to buyer
2nd: item lost in post and you are not covered. Refund on its way to buyer
in both cases, you are at a loss

You can only claim up to £28 for first class or £32 for standard parcel but you still need a receipt. I'd have not posted it or went to the bank then back to the posty.
Looks like your gonna be out of pocket eitherway as you can't prove it was sent.

Ebay is a scam from top to bottom, the minimum you should do is send it recorded delivery FFS

he sends me daily emails on ebay saying he hasnt recived it, and saying how was it sent etc
just sent him a email now saying :
Royal Mail 2nd Class Standard
Service to United Kingdom
You never asked for recorded delivery.
So for all I no you could of received the item and could be playing me. But I doubt this very much.
There will not be a refund because I defiantly sent the item.

but the postie could have taken it, if he knew it was of value and not recorded, the item could have been genuinely lost

I have just read this and agree with not using ebay because of people like him comment.
As far as you know the buyer has done nothing wrong, he might have received it but if he hasn't he's out of pocket because you wanted to save a couple of quid.
If you don't send it recorded you are asking to be scammed by those who aren't 100% honest.

If recorded was offered and he never took that option then he can't blame you.
He will have to take your word that you sent it just like you have to take his word that he hasn't got the item.
