All it is, is rent payable by the owner of a leasehold property to the freehold owner.

If you own a leasehold property then you pay this to the freehold owner. Normally for stuff like building insurance, upkeep of the grounds, etc.

Im paying something like £1000 a year for mine.

I know what leasehold is, never heard of it being called ground rent

thats because ground rent isnt leasehold.

The leasehold is obviously the way in which you own the property, but ground rent is a further charge you pay yearly. Im almost certain some gated community places probably charge a ground rent to houses that are free-hold for the upkeep of the grounds.

£20 month Gas
£40 month cable/internet/phone

Edinburgh is so goddam expensive

We pay
£650 mortgage (int only)
£120 council tax
£75 electricity
£30 phone and internet

Contents insurance paid all in a oner
Then we have factors as well, which works out around £700 a year
£50 a year for alarm contract

On top of mortgage, I have the following:
Council Tax £92
Gas £20
Water £15
Electric £16
Mobile £40(ish)
Telewest(phone, net and tv) £35
TV Licence £11
Buildings and Contents Insurance £21
DFS Finance(sofa's) £17
Then food, clothes, going out, petrol, running car(insurance, tax, MOT etc.), savings??
