i personally wouldnt go for dell, have heard some not so good stories and my room mate had one, didnt like it one bit.
You can find some very good deals on ebuyer for Acer branded ones, get all the peripherals as well, cant see why they wouldnt be ok, my Acer laptop is very good
Hope that helps ya

Acer are good, prefer there laptops to the desktops though...
Avoid Compaq/Packard Bell/HP/Advent/Patriot in regards to ANYTHING
Mesh make some good systems

ill also agree with PaulW there too, avoid the 'major' brands (typically the shite PC World and Currys sell to people who aint got a clue)
I know you said no home built systems but you know yo are getting quality when you buy each bit yourself

I'd go for Dell, never had a problem with any of our Dell machines.
Any computer manufacturer is going to have problems with a few computers in every hundred or so.

i've had good dealings with acer laptops in the past but a company we work for had some of the small "shuttle" style things made by them and they were pretty poor. their regular PCs may however be fine as i've had no dealings with them
