I'm pretty sure mine is on the way out. When ever it is raining, the revs seem to drop low when I approach a junction and dipping the clutch etc. It has only ever done it when raining. Last night however it wasn't, and I could hardly park in the layby outside my house for falling revs.

Is it just a case of replacing it (no EML is on)? If so how much are they new? And how easy are they to fit?

Or can they be 'cleaned' with carbuettor (sp?) cleaner or something of the like?

Not in a major panic but want to get ideas.

I cleaned mine on the 1.6, it lasted for about 1 week and then played up again.

You may aswell change it.

you should be able to do it yourself.
have you got a haynes manual, itll tell you how to do it

Dean, before ya get a new one, try taking the plastic 'top hat' off, and give the throttle body a clean out.

My 1.2 16v, is pretty much the same setup, and was doing this a while ago. Got a new ICV, AFM and something else, can't remember what, then bought some carb cleaner for £3 and sorted it

Is that the slightly circular thing with 3 silver bolts in it?

And what did you clean it with?

Yep, just undo the three bolts, wiggle it out of the way, then just spray carb cleaner into the throttle body get it nice and clean, then put the top back on, may take a few turns to start cos of the carb cleaner, but once it starts should idle perfect

Wish someone had give me this advice before I spent about £300 on parts

Pretty easy job, its on the side of the throttle body. Held on with 3 or 4 bolts.

i was under the impression that on these engines the ICV wasa sealed unit.

Thats what it was on my X12XE. Spraying it ith carb cleaner will do nothing as its sealed. All it is is a worm wheel and gear.

Just replace it, it will only go wrong again if you dont.

go to a vauxhall garage and ask for just a SPS (ecu update) should on cost £30 odd

Ok - if I replace the IAC valve anyway, will I need the ECU updating?

Can't I just disconnect the battery for 1hr so it relearns etc?

theres is an update of the IAC valves, but your best bet is to get a valve first

i have one, but cant remember if it works or not, your more than welcome to try it

If I could, that would be awesome - how much do you want for it?

In the Haynes manual it says that even after install a new valve, the ECU will need resetting by Vaux, is this true or can I just disconnect the battery?
