Now ive just upgraded from 2 meg to 4 meg AOL(I know!) broadband (ADSL) and im gettin a bit fucked off now.Below is a link as to the speed im getting...

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/1197994537200597566.html

Now do you reckon im still on 2 meg although AOL swear blind im now on 4 meg?

Or do you think its something to do with the BT line which i have been told can handle upto 4 meg?But plainly it isnt!!

could be overcrowding on your exchange how far you are from your exchange or a dodgy speedtest thats if they have changed it anyway...

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php if you put your postcode in there it should give youa rough estimate of what speed you should expect

Depends on how far you are from exchange/quality of line, that could be the maximum your line supports.

3km is a fair distance id expect around 3mb average if your only getting that speed on 4mb may as well go back to 2mb or get cable

go into your modem / router settings and look for ADSL sync speed, that will tell you wether your on 2 or 4mb.

there was stuff about this on the news tonight.

4mb will be the most you can possibly get, hence the ''up to'' bit.

you won't be getting that speed at all though.

sky 8mb was coming through at just 3.5mb.

was on bbc news and watchdog are going to investigate.

Its all a big farce and has been for some time because most people do not understand technology and the difference between bits and bytes.

I live 1km from the exchange and I sync at the full 8128kbps (highest BT profile is 7150kbps regardless) and I download at 870kb per second tops.

I'm with Entanet that actually up their BT pipes when they get more customers.... so I dont suffer drops in speed in comparison to other ISP's.

And the up to 8 meg stuff ... needs to be scrapped.

Up to 8 meg doesnt say up to 8 megabytes per sec. It means 8 megabits per second... which equates to 0.87 megabytes per second tops.

Thats what Ofcom and the rest are going to start arguing over. They need to educate whilst advertise at the same time.
