Then set yourself a target to finish it. Basically you just want something to focus on other than the money.
If you really need the savings only buy one pair of shoes a month for example. You don't need to stop spending, just spend less. Easily said however

i wish i had saved money too when i was younger, i left school and at 16 went straight into earning 14k a year...blew the lot up the wall with nothing to show for it. I wish i had money to save nowadays! as a single parent NOT on benefits, i have my own house to pay for and all bills, not to mention cars etc.

I'm (we're) shite with money...
have it, spunk it...
We are going through sooo much cash on the house though that we havent really had money to spend freely for a while.
2 mortgages, 3 cars.... dont really have any savings at the moment as just paid for new windows
currently 'save' about 1k a month, but its spent on new things for the house as soon as its in the bank though

But to be fair AK, I'd rather spend all my money on a mortgage than save it.
Far better investment than any savings account.

Im ok with my money. I track it from when it goes into my account using a spreadsheet I knocked up. Deduct any spend and savings and generally work downards to £zero every month.
If I get a odd number in my account or pence, I put it straight into savings. You will be surprised how much it builds up.
I saved £7500 last year with little effort.
I could/should have saved alot more than that, but luxuries were bought i.e mountain bike, 2 Lcd TV's, lap top and loads of dfesigner clothes.
Any money I save now is going to be used towards a house.

Im generally ok with money, although I never have anything left at the end of the month I only spend what I have, don't have a credit card to spend on.
Currently trying to clear my overdraft this month and im setting up a direct debit to start saving a set amount every month, moving into my own place later this year so I will need to stop impluse buying and have a bit of cash saved up

Yeah thats all fine & dandy, but you probably wont die tomorrow. I want to be able to retire at 50 maybe 55 & live off the fruits of my last 30odd yrs hard graft, maybe have a place abroad. You wont get that if you live for the moment, I cant see the government pension or even many company ones being worth the paper their written on when were in our senior years.

Once parents are paid off I hope to save around a grand a month if I make no big purchases. I can easily live off the remaining amount. I've always been good with saving, just I'm choosing to spend at the moment so I can get the things I want, which is pretty much done now.

State pension won't be worth a carrot in 30 years. Interest rates being what they are, there won't be much money there and as you'll live longer it'll need to last for that long.

I am complete toss with money, earn it > spend it, and some.
I am hoping to get myself sorted this year finally though, got some good prospects again and my priorities have changed. Can't see myself saving any this year just getting myself sorted and getting car, holiday etc.
Working for a fairly money savvy fella at moment so going to ask for some advice from him over coming months as to how best plan for future.

Sorry, what gov't pension woudl this be? Itll have been scrapped a logn tiem before any of us (well, apart form maybe Mav ) reach retirement age
If you rely on the govt to look after you then your in for a big shock in 3o years mate!
