I just had t buy a new wireless broadbrand router today as my old one stopped working.
Everything is connected up ok and works fine.

The problem I have is that when I do a wireless network search mine comes up as an unsecure network and the neighbours are secure.

How do I go about making mine secure?

Its a Netgear router and i'm running XP if that helps.

Thanks in advance.
Oh, and keep it simple and in plan English as I'm not very knowledgable about computer stuff.

Go to the Netgear website and get the instructions for your router

Thats wep, what you want is wpa which is just one passphrase, much easier and much more secure.

Have a look in Ash's thread. There is a link for generating a secure key. As John said I'd go for WPA.

Use WPA like John said.

Change the password on your Router too.

You could also consider mac address filtering but for most just WPA is fine.

Once your setup you might want to open up certain ports so your download programs etc wont be limited.
