i have noticed that sometimes when the car has been sat for a few hours a ploom of smoke comes from the exhaust when started, any ideas what this could be?

if it helps, the car uses oil, not sure where, but in the last 4 or 5 months i have probably topped the oil up 3 or 4 times?

thanks alot

sounds like stem seals have gone, when the the seals are warm and lubricated they work better as a seal as they are soft and have expanded because of the heat, when cold its the absolute opposite hence the reason you will get a slight poof of smoke from the excess oil that is left on the valve,

take your exhaust manifold off and see if there is oil round the valve stems. could still be on the inlet side though. its a pig changing stem seals.
