99% of the time it's extremely easy to tell accident damage instead of a hardware failure.

I've had a moisture damaged screen and keyboard replace by dell before, as well as lots of stuff.
That means you have to lie and relies on the guys on the phone not asking you to send pictures in, the engineer that comes out doesn't care why he's replacing it.

the 1% is when you actually break the screen.

When I broke the screen on my iBook, I just got another of eBay and replaced it.
With some research, it turned out that they used the same screen in several PC laptops, so the parts didn't cost Apple parts money either.

yeah did the same to my netbook, ebay for another lcd screen cost about £80, very easy to fix if your handy in the slightest.
or claim on house insurance say you dropped it down the stairs, that worked for my hardware failed acer laptop the only problem with it was unresponsive keys, i just said i dropped it down the stairs, after numerous phone conversations they gave me £350

You usually have to pay a £100 excess though, I dropped my laptop about three inches and cracked the screen and they just sent me a brand new laptop that was much better specced.
