what can i do to free up space??
its mostly programs that are in the cdrive even though i have tried to have most on on my externaly (e drive).
how do i get all the programs to run from the external harddrive to free up space on the c drive?
is it just a case of copying the programs file from the c to e?

Uninstall, then re-install to the E drive.
it will still be searching for the programme in C when you run it otherwise.

This is what I love about Mac OS X - you just move one file or delete it, that's it - no system registry bollocks, no uninstallers, no zillions of dependancies everywhere taking up valuable space on your hard drive.

Or just uninstall everything you don't need/want. I've recently uninstalled some games that I never play on my Tower, and I freed up 22GB... It wasn't even that many games

when you say you have a 1/3 of space left.. how much is that? Because on a 40gb thats about 13.3GB (nothing really) but on a 500GB thats 166GB (LOADS)... and just for fun on a 1TB hard drive thats 333GB... lol

Managed to free up 50gb of data the other day from my laptop without deleting any songs or images (or any other file that would be considered 'personal').
Use the following Windows apps:
Disk Defragmenter
Disk Cleanup
Also, open your browser and clear the browsing history too if Disk Cleanup doesn't do it.
There's so many programs you'll be able to un-install that you don't use...

Go by this rule... dont use it? UNINSTALL IT... its as simple as that. If your unsure what something is... GOOGLE IT and you will find out... If its no use to u REMOVE IT
