Right, when I got my mortgage sorted out I was sent a pile of paperwork through, in them were the original deeds to my house and a box full of paperwork going back 80 years.
Should I actually have these as I thought most places kept them until the mortgage was fully paid off?
Thanks

nah u dont normally keep them. whoever did the conveyancing will normally store them
Its not bad for you to have them but obv if u lose them you dont have a master copy it can be a bit of a pain in the arse

You either pay the solicitor to hold them (around £25+VAT for 5 years) or keep them yourself but run the risk of them being lost/stolen etc...

Doesn't matter so much any more if they are destroyed. Land Registry keeps electronic copies of it all. Fireproof safes are cheap though.

if you have a mortgage on it- the mortgage company will keep them, if no mortgage, theres a good change your solicitor will.
When you want to retrieve them, if you are doing a conveyance, ask your solicitor to collect them, as usually they do it free, whilst you have to pay around £80 retrieval fee for them direct
