they made it over the top of the original game, so you are able to revert back to the original graphics at any time with the push of a button

The bit at the start where it loads up as the old Monkey Island then switches to the new graphics is amazing. I grew up playing Monkey Island 1 & 2 so this is pretty amazing for me
