Ive got to replace the heatsink/fan on my mates pc and i need to somehow get the thermal paste of the CPU. what can i use to get it off??

You can get thermal paste cleaner, but something like methylated spirits or pure alcohol (Isopropanol, Acetone, found in nail polish remover, Xylene) will also work.
Don't use anything like White Spirit!
edit - if you're going to use an Acetone based nail polish remover, make sure it doesn't have additives (colouring, fragrance etc).
Oh and i would have thought lighter fluid would work too, but yeah just make sure it has completely evaporated!
