One of my PCs doesn't POST the first time I switch the PC on, I usually have to press the reset button a few times or turn it off by holding the power switch down for 5 seconds and turn it back on again.
I recently fitted a new PSU (it has more power than the old one) and a SATA HDD. Could either of these be the problem?
PC is a P4 system with 2Gb RAM.

mine kept restarting was my fan in the end ! kept shorting the system

Ah right. The fan has got one of those speed control dial things connected to it, could that be the cause? I've set the speed fairly low (but not dangerously low) for a more quieter system.

Check to see if there are any loose connections, also might be worth trying the other PSU if you have it to hand...
Had this on my old Athlon system... was a fault with the motherboard though...

I can't really use the old PSU as it hasn't got a SATA power connector from it (my HDD is SATA)...
On that subject, the SATA drive is running off the SATA controller on the motherboard, and the Primary IDE drive is my DVD rewriter (Secondary IDE is a ZIP drive).
Would that setup affect it at all?

OK I found out that the CPU on my motherboard is meant to be for a mobile system rather than desktop, so I bought a slightly faster desktop CPU off eBay and a 512Mb video card (needed a better card anyway for doing stuff in Photoshop etc.), so I'll see if the problem goes when upgrading as I think the video card is a bit dodgy as well.
