Jon Lax, Teehan and their Elements jailbreak app is what apple should have added - >HERE<. Every other smart phones has this sort of notification system and it's the most logical way of doing it than the current 'hunt the app to see if you have a new notifications/push message'.
To be honest i'm not really that impressed with OS4, just seems like they've added one or two worth while features and then a ton of bollocks that isn't really needed. And i'm not convinced with the multitasking, apparently you don't close the app the iPhone does it for you And what the fuck is iAds all about? Clearly they weren't happy with not getting any of the revenue so thought they'd jump in on the action. No doubt they'll deny apps that use any other forms of advertising
It's a great product and as Ed said, it's brilliantly designed, but it could also be so much more....

Dom it was a developer conference, not a public product launch, hence why iAds was mentioned in such detail.
And apple know what they are doing with the iPhone, they could easily bring out something so much more advanced but they know they have the public's attention so are drip feeding them small updates to maximise revenue - its no different from any other technology company tbh.

Nah you cant set the wallpaper for the home screen.
....
Why would you want a wallpaper when it'll be plastered with app icons?
I didnt know it was. Ive never played with an iphone for long enough to notice I just know that every phone since the days of 3210 had customisable(sp?) back grounds on the home screen.

The background is customizable on the home screen, but on the desktop you're stuck with black. Not really sure if it matters or not because you wouldn't be able to see the pic of your missus or your dog you'd loving set as the icons cover most the stuff up. I've Jailbroken mine so I've got an OSX Leopard theme which looks quite funky. I'm glad they've added folders though as mine is beginning to get a bit messy being 4 screens wide...

I see what you're saying but i think only a few companies have the ability release such advanced technology, Apple being one of them. It seems like, Nokia/Samsung/Sony etc all seem to be trying to push the boundaries everytime they release a new phone and they end up being nothing special wheras Apple are actually holding back.

That's because Apple have some of the best designers in the world working for them
