Lately the air con on my car has been whining and I'm pretty sure it didn't used to do it Does this mean something is on the way out and it is going to cost lots of money?
Here is a video to help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfvPxirneMQ

Does anyone know what's wrong with it, or if it's even wrong at all?
I turned the A/C on earlier and it was fine to start with, but once it started getting cold it was whining again.

See if theres are play in the air con pump pulley. It might be the bearings going in the pump.

there is a chance the compressor seals are drying up and letting the oil based lubricant escape so the compressor whines.

if the whining start after running the AC then check compresor oil if it full then change the compressor i think it's about 100$ for use one and the new one about 400$
