Question may seem obscure but here goes.
I recently downloaded Nokia Messaging for my phone. I use the IMAP function but it basically connects to the mailbox every so often and downloads emails. I'm sure you know the drill.
But if I set it to 'Soonest' for the Send & Receive Sync, it seems to have a 3G/GPRS connection open all the time. Is this using data continuously, or only when a message is downloaded?

Usage is only when data is being transferred, you can have the connection permanently for no charge.
I'd guess that IMAP just sends a small packet ever X seconds to see if you have any new mail.

It probably uses some sort of packet connection yes.
Emails won't use anywhere near even the new shit 500mb limits though.
