No idea what to get! I want an iphone4 but they're too expensive for me. Thinking Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire, Sony X10 or iphone 3GS. Bit of an ambiguous question but which one is best?

3GS, the 4 isn't really worth the extra imo

HTC desire is the best out of that lot, buying a 3GS now is wasted money.

Just to save starting a new thread. I'm due my upgrade from tomorrow on orange. Looking at same phones, iphone (expensive option, desire or galaxy (more likely).
General question about android, the latter two both use it,does this mean they both have access to exactly the same updates, programs etc? So the real difference is the hardware?
Reading reviews they seem pretty evenly matched with people preferring one or the other for different reasons.

Different networks can have different versions of the software, and samsung has some interface over the top of android but they have the same stuff behind the scenes.
Updates can be phone/network/brand specific but in general they get the same updates, some just take longer to get them than others.
Orange are terrible for branding and updates, they will be equally disadvantaged though.

Yeah I've never been keen on the stuff orange stick on. I think I'll call them up and see what they offer then take that and see what I can get elsewhere. I'd like iphone but i'm not going to pay hundreds for it

It's not worth the cost difference over a Desire.

It's the silly name that Apple came up with for video calling on the iPhone4 using the front facing camera.

Some people use video calling. I think phones should come with front facing cameras for the option to use it.
If you read the wiki your question will be answered

FaceTime Phones have had that for years - it's called video calling, and doesn't require the other person to have the exact same phone as you!

exactly my point. new phones should have the ability.
All of the top new phones are missing something.

Me too. I wouldn't use "facetime"
It's just a shame there isn't the perfect phone for everyone.
