Been looking at a replacement for a Pretty meaty Vaio I purchased in 2007 which had 1080P screen, blu-ray 4GB RAM, Core duo 2 processor. Reasonably well specced at the time.
Laptops I am looking at is the Samsung R580 and R590. Is it worth getting the 590 for the LED screen?
Anyone know much about these laptops? do you rate them?
will be used for general browsing/office, image processing in PS and watching Blu-Rays. Not overly fussed about games as prefer using my 360 for that.
Didn't really want to go over £700.
So what do you think and can anyone suggest alternatives?
Cheers.

Not quite the same but I recently bought an R530 which is pretty good in terms of reliability and battery time etc. so far.
Mine has the LED screen as well, which IMO seems better than my previous laptop that didn't have LED.
Sorry this probably doesn't help you much

Sam this seems to be the highest spec in the 530 : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/199998
Im thinking of dropping the Blu-Ray and just buying a seperate player as I only contact the laptop up to my TV via HDMI anyway and rarely use the laptop as a standalone player.

Marc you dirty young man, I was thinking more for these features :
Full Media server- stream movies, music and photos to any network capable media player including Xbox360, PS3 etc.
Apple iTunes 7 servers - iPods, iPhones, PCs or Macs running the iTunes client can access the shared music library stored on the ReadyNAS Duo.
Also i think there is an offer on where netgear send you an additional 1TB drive for free.

I've got an R40 - about 3 years old now, but its great. Nothing has fallen apart, solidly built, lovely screen.
Battery completely and utterly packed up about a year ago, but thats my fault for leaving it constantly charging.

Samsung laptops are incredibly well built and very reasonably priced - I wouldn't buy anything else now.

I've got the 530 which as mentioned above has the LED screen. It does look a lot better than other laptops we have in the house.
If you wasn't bothered about bluray, I'd go for the 530 and spend a bit of money on a bluray player

Sounds daft but, depending on how much a BluRay player is, it seems the PS3 is the best BluRay player? Apparently it's upgradeable, I'd assume some stand alone ones are as well but not all.
