I use Spotify on my Mac, works great with local files and even suggests albums I might be interested in hearing too.

I only use VLC player.
It plays all video formats + all audio formats, I don't need anything with fancy skins or visualisations to sap CPU / memory usage

I dont like WMP and Itunes is planting some shitty exe file for iphones (which I dont and never will own) which is using up CPU

I still use winamp, not that I often use the computer for playing music, but if I do its winamp, can transfer to iPod too instead of having to use iTunes
