Can this be done from home, for free just using software available online?

Had a couple mates ask me if I know anywhere that unlocks them and thought it can't be that hard, just having trouble finding any software etc.

Or is it a pain and just worth the £5-£10 to the guy on the market.

no, and your guy on the market cant do it either, networks need to do it.
you dont just do it with a cable theyre all on a database of some sort

can be done via Officialiphoneunlock.co.uk

Only legit source online and its not done via 'Code'.

Network have to deem the phone unlocked with apple and then you plug into itunes to confirm it.

Matey in your local market can probably offer to jailbreak/unlock it though depending on what model iphone
