is there such a thing available? I want to fit some speakers and be able to plug in phones, laptops and mp3 players

or will i have to make my own?

Buy a cable with a 3.5mm jack and strip one of the ends. Alternatively buy a jack plug and a load of speaker from Maplin or similar and make something up.

Guessing the speakers are active/amplified?

If the speakers are active, they'll have a 3.5 mm input.

I can't think of a single situation where a cable with a 3.5 mm plug in one end and the other end flayed like a speaker wire would work.
