Got Win8 on a Dell laptop. Can I just get a Dell Win7 disc off ebay and it'll go onto the laptop fine to replace Win8?

Cheers

Win8 uses SLIC 3.0, Win7 uses SLIC 2.1

It's unlikely to OEM activate

You'd need a retail disk and key to do it above board

There might be a SLIC 2.1 BIOS out there... but that is at your own risk. There are hackivators available but my knowledge ends at dodgy BIOSes

A copy of W7 can be "activated" using removeWAT (if you can find a copy nowadays).

The least effort and cost option is to man up and get used to Windows 8.

Update it to 8.1 if it isn't up to date already (this will enable you to force boot into Desktop mode rather than the scrolly tile jobby), then install a Start Bar utility until Windows 10 comes out.

I quite like Windows 8.1 now

There does feel like something is missing, perhaps the start button could be it! Might try this start is back.....

Cheers rob!

Slap a Start Bar utility on their machine and tell them to STFU then.

He's moaning that it's slow, etc, blaming win8 I guess. I've had a go of it and it is dog slow to be fair

I was thinking just a factory restore but he's keen to get rid of win8.

If it's new enough to have come with Windows 8 it shouldn't be dog slow. I imagine he's filled it with shit.

Factory restore + Start Bar + block Pornhub I reckon.

I've not done a reinstall with one yet but you can get dell laptops with an 8 licence and a preinstalled 7 downgrade. Good chance of a dell 7 disc just working.

Find the Compaq/HP Engineer install of Win7 torrent, it activates on everything and includes all builds of Win7 that fit on one Dual-layer DVD+R.
