my pads are worn right out and my discs look like they need changing. Plus my discs look stupidly small with my 17s.
So shall i go for v-tunnings.....
16v 256 kit
The kit comprise of a pair of 256mm vented front discs and a pair of GM 16v calipers and pads to suit 4 stud application.
Note :-Minimum wheel size for this kit is 14”
£140
Will it be worth while and does it cost alot more than what it would for just the pads and discs i need. i guess labour for fitting will cost a bit more. And would i need braided hoses?
Any advice will be appriciated

Get a Vectra V6 setup, 288mm disks (i think) huge calipers, lots more stopping power, and will fill those 17's

would be nice but its a bit more expensive. and i did do a little searching beofre i posted. some people said they are a bit to aggresive if you haven't got ABS and you deffo need braided hoses.
Not to sure how accurate the info i found was. but i think the 16v ones will be good enough for me

16v ones are good but v6 are better i went form 1.2 to 16v then to v6 and noticed a massive difference both times so 16v brakes will do the job nicely and you wont need braided hoses

thats cool. i ain't about having super maxing brakes. just want ones that work and look good. was there alot of difference between the 16v and v6 ones corsaandy? as much difference as there is between standard and 16v?
so how much is a set of pads and discs? i know i know i should check my self. but shops are shut today. will i be paying much more for going for the 16v kit?

umm champiro mate. not to sure how good they are. in the wet i have lost it twice. but i was going stupid speeds up to a roundabout which had a bend just before it and i braked last second. never again though

Sounds good. how long have you had them on there?
i need to get this sorted asap because on one side its making a scrapping noise where the pad has worn out

if your upgrading brakes you need a good make of tyres or your wasting your time. all braking power is transferred through your tyres enabling you to stop. you could have the best brakes money can buy, but if your runnin on poor quality tyres they won't transfer the stopping power and you'll just skid.
i've never heard of champiro. my guess is their pretty average. i'd upgrade your tyres as well if your serious about brake upgrading.

ahh cool. did you upgrade youe tyres drunkfool?
chris i'd say my tyres are average and i understand about needing better traction to use the braking power. But i just wanted bigger looking ones if it wasn't much more than buying new pads and discs.
How much a set of decent rubber bands cost me you reckon? £200?

Mine came with the aloys, uniroyal rainsports. Cost me £85 each for replacement ones, but thats205/40/17.

I would have thought just replacing the standard discs and pads would be a lot cheaper than upgrading. You say it'l be £140 to upgrade. Compared to about £70 for replacing the standard ones. Have you done any engine mods for more performance, if not, then why the need for more stopping power?
Your choice entirely of course mate, i'm not knockin ya or anythin. But brakes aren't designed to look nice
i'd replace the standard discs and pads and do the work my self. Its really not too hard, you'll cut yer costs for labour and parts, and you'll get some good experience of doin' it.

yeh there was about the same difference when changing from 16v to v6 brakes sims pads and disks shouldnt cost more than £50 for standard 1.4 ones

If its around £50-70 for new pads and discs then i'll probably just do that.
Cos ain't done nought to the engine apart from what everyone does (pvd cone and s/s exhaust). I just thought it wouldn't cost me much more to upgrade so thought it might be worth doing.
But if i will need to get new tyres to actually use the braking power then its going to cost a whole lot more. I ain't planning on keeping the car anyhow

nah u dont really need new tyres tbh and they are well worth getting. you could pick up a set of calipers well cheap from the scrapies or mig and then buy new discs.

mines is black! the ecotec engine's fucking murder tho.
i've got some rear lexus style lights that might look good on a red one. the standard ones look better on mine cos of the colour so i don't have em on.
good condition.

not ta on the lexus lights. I really ain't gonna do anything to my car unless i get full respray. But i can't be othered with that and i'm saving for a new car.
corsaandy, i might ring a few scrappies tomorrow and see if i can get hold of some good condition calipers.

the 256mm are gonna still look small behind 17" wheels...... get the v6 jobbies... i have them on mine and they are brilliant.... and get braided hose's as soon as u can afford them....

I got V tunings 286mm V6 kit, and its a lot better than the old SRi std setup.
Id reccomend it, its not much more £'s than the 16v but stops and looks better.

hmm. i think i'll go for the 16v ones if i upgrade. the V6 would be cool, but probably to much braking power for me. plus i'd need the briaded hoses

i got the v-tuning 16v brake kit on my 1.6 Gsi!
they are brilliant! soo much better than my standard Gsi ones! much more braking power and car hardly swerves at ALL under hard braking now, also work really good with my ABS, and ive got standard hoses
i got standard 14inch gsi alloys with average brand tyres....
my advice is if you got ABS then go for the V6 brakes as all that braking power can be controlled otherwise u could lock the brakes up easliy at high speeds without ABS!
