Replaced the lifters at the weekend but now the car is misfiring Driveable but sluggish and scoobyish ! Also smoking a lot/ running rich.

Timing is SPOT ON and I am 100% sure of it !

I have a slight air leak but had this before and it never made a difference.

All hoses are attatched fine (vacum ones)

What could th problem be ?

dont have much lucj do you

fix the air leak first, then double check the timing they are the exact symptoms of timing being 1 tooth out

Checked timing belt again today.

Took it off and refitted it.

Still misifiring !

Spark plug in cylinder 2 is soaking in petrol so thats te source of the misfire . . .

Im thinking of getting new leads but whats the point when they were fine before hand ?

Is there any chance at all that I could have bent valves ?

swap the lead for one you know works and fit 4 new spark plugs. if its just number 2 not firing then its unlikely to be the dispack.

if its a coil pack then more than likely it will stop 2 plugs from working as they spark in batches, 2 plugs at the same time.
have you done a diagnostics test to see if any fault codes show up
and you 100% sure the cam timing is correct??

Swapped the leads 2 and 3 today , but its still number two not sparking , plug soaked in fuel

The cam timing is spot on for definite. Had the belt off and on 3 times now !

If the timing was out would it only misfire on one ?

How would I know if valves were bent ?

Why would that happen ? I havent gone near any of that ?

Should I do a compression test ?

Also my brakes are really shit ! Like theres no vacum ?

Could this be connected , and if so how ?

And ALSO it says the top two pulleys should be aligned with the top of the cylinder head , but you cant actually see the cyliner head because of the timing belt rear casing/cover , so basically I have them lined up horizontally . . .

odd one this! id do a comp test yes, hope you havent got a problem with your newly installed lifters!! did everything fit ok? also worth just having a scan over all your earths/wires etc just incase anythings got disturbed.

be warned, its not good practice to reuse a belt once it has been installed and tightened up.

wouldnt of thought u had bent valves! unless you initially got the timing wrong and a piston wacked them. Sounds a little like one of the lifters hasnt seated properly and is holding a valve open slightly (only a possibility though) worth going over evrything you did before it happened and giving it a good check id say

Already gone way back to the start and taken everything out and put it all back together again - no change.

It doesnt start at all now and blue smoke pops from the head - its fooked.

Head is coming off tommorow to be rebuilt.

Yeah sounds like the lifters are jacked up and holding valves open, causing low compression.

Altho that wouldn't explain the blue smoke...

Guess the best thing do is get the head removed

When you removed the lifters, did you squeeze them in a vice to remove any oil from inside them? Could be why they're playing up if you didn't...
