Heres why

quote:

The Xbox 360 12x DVD-ROM with a data transfer rate of 16MB per second for gaming applications spins SIX TIMES faster than the 2x BD-ROM drive used in the Playstation 3, which only has a data transfer rate of 9MB per second for gaming applications.

So it spins six times faster, but doesn't even manage to get twice the data transfer rate? Not very efficient

The ps3 drive consistently reads the data at the same speed.

360 is faster on the outer of the disc.

Yet again you've made up an excuse for a downpoint of the 360.

and even if your theory was correct john, it would still be reading faster on the inner edge of the disk than the sony can output consistantly anyway, so whichever way you want to look at it, the drive reads faster than the ps3, which is why its noisier

that is the dumbest comment i've heard. Its like saying, my leg hasn't been blown off due to an anti-tank mine, but it certainly happens

Eitherway, its a problem thats becoming more apparent and has been since launch. Not sure what microsoft are doing about it though....probably brushing it under the carpet of "microsoft cock ups"

p.s - it won't be a constant 16MB data transfer either same as the ps3, it won't be a constant 9mb. But you're certainly not getting 6 times more advatange over the ps3, just more noise and deeper scratches

12x DVD-ROM drives tend to use CAV (constant angular velocity) rather than ZCLV in BD-ROM, so John's comment is correct. Most vary from around 4X at the centre to 12X by the outside. The fact the disk spins at a constant speed means the data goes past the laser faster as you move towards the outside of the disk - simple maths.

This means an 12X DVD-ROM only (crudely) averages 8X speed, which is pretty comparable to a 2X BD-ROM.

And you say Sony fanboys get given an inch and take a mile
