It keeps stuttering and when pulling off in 1st it just loses revs and then jerks back to life a few seconds later, not great pulling out into traffic

Does that sound like the AFM?

Not long replaced it either (Warren.g will remember)

Would my induction kit (BMC) be causign them to mess up? ill take it off if it keeps being a gay

It sometimes starts crap too, as in it will start and then the revs just drop (down to about 400/500rpm and then might pick up, if not it just cuts out

Yep, tends to do it more in 1st, sometimes in 2nd and also 3rd.

Just driving nornally and acellerating makes it stutter before revving normally

doesnt as much idle funny, idles fine 800rpm, its just on the initial start up each time

thanks for help guys, hope this isnt more money engine wise

what you can do, check to see if theres any moisture in there (that buggers them right up)

if there is, get rid of that air filter thingy you have

Ah right, ill have a check tomorrow, thanks.

Im pretty sure i shall have to resort back to standard box and panel filter when i fit my strut anyways, so ill have a look at getting rid if its the cause of teh problems.

Thanks for help warren and others

Was gonna post today about the same thing! Mine bogs down when you pull away, then it takes of and all is normal again.

Tried a AFM off of ebay, it made it better, but it introduced a flat spot around 4000rpm. It was a cheap chinese thing, so was probably a waste of time. Will try and get a genuine one instead. Mines a 1.2sxi also.

Induction kit won't help with AFM life, as they can let a little more dirt through than the standard air filter. Standard box and gen. vauxhall filter will give best AFM life, but they never do last that long really. Cleaning with electrical cleaner sometimes gets a few more miles out of them.

Haimsey......

Do me a favour.... unplug your lambda sensor. Its a large 4 pin plug here:

Then take it out for a drive. The engine management light will come on while its un plugged.. but dont worry.

Does the stuttering stop then?

Sounds like it could have any number of faulty sensors on it.

No EM light comes on though, it just stutters and pulls off poorly and starts poorly

There are a lot of problems which could cause this though. It's funny how whenever somone gets a problem like this it's always the MAF sensor or the ICV. Actually, the exhaust gas recirc valve seems to be a popular one that crops up every now and again.

Ive changed the EGR valve that solved my problem of not being able to go over 70pmh

What do you think it could be then?

You missed my point, you can't just guess what's wrong with it from a vauge description of the problems. The engine needs to be hooked up to a diagnosis machine to pin point the problem.

Ed... mine went on Tech2 for the same problem and never got to the bottom of it... but every time we unplugged the lambda the engine ran fine.

Replaced the AFM, crank sensor, EGR, ICV, CTS and TPS sensors..... didnt make no difference.

Thats right....

We had to drive around with Tech2 connected while pulling off at roundabouts ect but no bizarre values were coming up either on real time monitoring

My 1.2 16v's light didn't come on when I had issues with a crank shaft position sensor, however it stored enough information for them to be able to diagnose that it was that sensor at fault.
