See these have come down alot in price recently....
Which one to go for??
I have a Panasonic SA-PT460 DVD/Home cinema system and an LG Scarlett HDTV.
Dont have a budget, max £400 i guess, would rather spend less.
Reccomendations/advice??

If your budget is £400 would you not be better off getting a PS3?

i got a panasonic BMP BD35 with multi region playback for £220 from richersounds.
i spent about a week or so searching many threads on avforums and that was the player most people recommended in that price bracket.
its my first blu ray player so i cant compare it to others but the picture quality is perfect. the dark knight on blu ray on my 32inch 1080i tv looks just as good as at my mates being played through his ps3 on a 37inch lg tv at 1080p.
theres a samsung and a sony 350 blu ray player around the same price aswell, i think the samsung is meant to have the edge on picture quality but only just but the panasonic gives the best sound and beats the sony at standard dvd upscaling.
your best off heading over to avforums for the best advice. i did and felt i made the right choice

Yes, yes they do, they're upscaled to 1080i i'd imagine on most players.
While you're here Jambo, N78, any good as a phone?

[fact]You're best off going for the Playstation in that price range regardless of if you want a games console or not. The PS3 is probably the best Blu-ray player for under £500. Also you get the added benefit of being able to stream video / audio over a wireless media server which is pretty good.[/fact]
[ps3 fanboy] Plus you'll discover that you've been using two inferior games consoles all along. [/ps3 fanboy]

You are better off buying the PS3 even if you never played a game on it.

As long as you didn't read that on avforums, the ps3 is an excellent player though, some high end places use it as there reference player.

PS3's noisy? It's virtually silent. Obviously it's your decision but I couldn't justify paying £400 for a standalone Blu-ray player when the PS3 will do the job just as well or even better for £230 with a remote. I've read many reviews that say the upscaling is top notch and is now even better with the latest firmware updates. I'm very happy with my PS3 as a blu-ray player and it works just as well as my sister's Sony BDP-S550.

the ps3 isnt the best best blu ray player out there anymore im afraid.
the sony BDP 350 is just as good as a ps3 at being a blu ray player and dvd upscaler(some will argue it is infact even better) and only costs £179.
granted the ps3 is perfect at being a blu ray player and all round 'media centre' but why spend the extra if you just need a blu ray player and dvd upscaler? i agree that the ps3 is the easiest for updating and its still the fastest loading blu ray player in the world but my panasonic isnt far behind and with BD live 2.0 updates are very easy though i havnt needed any yet.
have you seen a blu ray movie yet jambo?

Im not doubting the PS3s ability at all, its £300. The player in which MK4 posted is £185 delivered. So huge price difference, picture upscaling etc is the same if not better on the panasonic according to some reviews i have read. I am not going top play games on it and have no interest for extra controlers taking up space in my cramped room.
Some of those reviews said it was noisy as does my mate who owns one.
Im not a fanboy nor intrested in brands really just want a blu ray player that will work well with the HC System i posted i posted £400 as a maximum, hopefully i can get it for much less than that!
Please dont trun this into a fanboy thread.

In that case, just go for the BDP 350 that MK4 posted then Jambo. As you say it's probably the best value for money and suited for what you want. If you were going to spend any more than £185 I'd definately lean towards the PS3. I don't mean to sound like a fanboy but I genuinely do think it's great value for money (only £230 with a remote from play.com) so if you're willing to spend £50 more, I'd go for that. Hope that helps.

Here's the 40GB console mate:
http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/3497508/Sony-Playstation-3-PS3-Console-with-40GB-HDD/Product.html
and the remote:
http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/3308576/Official-Sony-Blu-ray-Remote-Control-for-PS3/Product.html
So about £237 for both so very good deal I reckon.

ok cool just checking as some people are abit let down when the see blu ray/ hd dvd movies but then some people are probably expecting the bad guys to leap out there tv and shoot them. personallyi think the picture and sound on a good blu ray movie is 5X better than standard dvd, get apocalypto on blu ray and you will be blown away
oh and the ps3 is very quiet as a player, though i understand some versions are abit noiser than others but no way near as noisy as a 360.
also keep your eyes peeled for bundle deals, sony tend to throw in 2 bluy rays for free and blockbuster were adding an additional 3 movies for free aswell if you bought BDP 350 from them so a decent player and 5 blu rays for £180ish is a bargain

thats not bad at all, but doesnt the 40GB version lack a few handy features that the 60GB has?

My dad got a Sony Bluray player. Came from Amazon.
the player itself cost £160. It came with 3 free films (Good ones - Hancock, Walle and Mumamia) Valued at £20.
When he registered it with Sony they sent out 2 more DVD's (Batman and Casino Royale)
All valued at £20 each. Makes the player only cost £60
