Had phone call saying the car was driving again,
Then a day later it wasnt
Garage recon diff, im not convinsed I would have thought once its gone its gone.
Loose shafts make more sense but that would be quite obvious to see ??
ideas?

You need to get the car back in your possession first of all, then either have a look yourself or take it to another garage.

Definately shaft mate, this happened to me couldn't work it out for a few days.
It popped in and out and we couldn't work out why it worked and didn't worked til my dad noticed the shaft loose. It will be when the cars turning or moving in a certain direction that'll be pulling it out, if the circlip isn't messed up at the end then yes you should be able to whack it back in then just pull on it to check you can't pull it back out

Yeah, I'd be checking the circlip on the inner CV, without that it'll just keep popping out.

Where abouts is the clip?

If you pull the shaft out of the box there is a groove in the spines very close to the end... In that grove should be a clip (a simple piece of thin toughend steel bent into a circle shape).

It's on the end of the CV joint, so you'll have to undo the bottom ball-joint, pull the inner CV completely out of the box then there'll be a groove maybe 5mm from the end of the splines which should have a circlip in it. When you pull the shaft out you are likely to get some gearbox oil spill out too so be ready for that.

have the steering turned to the side that the shaft is coming out of, gives you more room to work.
also, if the clip is there. open it out a bit. then it should clip into box properly.
