Thinking about switching my current account to First Direct from HSBC. The only thing I'm wondering is how do you pay cash or cheques in? Occasionally I might want to.
Anyone know?

Just over the counter in HSBC, you can post cheques to them for free too.
Assuming you will pay salary into the account, you shouldn't have to pay monthly fee, unless you start adding shit on.

Ah cool thanks. I thought I'd heard that about paying in at HSBC.
They've got an offer on at the moment, £125 cash back if you move to them by 30th April, pay in at least £1000 a month and switch at least 2 direct debits to the new account. I can do all that so might as well give it a go as I'm getting nothing from my account at the moment. Plus free text banking. Yeah will be my current account so my salary will go in it to avoid the monthly charge.

They are great to bank with. Answer the phone within seconds and its a UK person not a foreign call center.
Only annoyinance is thier ISA rates are fairly poor

I'm with First Direct as are my parents.
I've been with them for 10 years now. Awesome service.
Yeah, as said you can just use the HSBC branches. The automatic machines are good.

I work for HSBC.
It's pretty much the same. Alot of stuff we ant do in branch mainly as we can't see your signature.
Make sure if you want to withdraw more than your daily ATM limit (£500) you bring a cheque book AND ID. Or you'll have to call first direct, go trough security and wait for authorisation to be sent down from them to us.
Better rates, Remember you opened bank not in branch, so don't expect to be able to walk into a HSBC and do what you want

I switched because I wasn't really getting anything worth staying with HSBC for and First Direct are supposed to be really good customer service. Liked the sweep feature too. Plus there's the £125 bonus so might as well give it a try
When I rang last night someone answered the phone after 2 rings and they weren't in a foreign call centre either.

Yup the call center does work very well. My wife finds it easier just to ring up as they answer so quickly and deal with the inquiry quickly too.

Yeah it does sound good and I've been accepted so just wait for all the stuff to arrive in the mail. I've been with my bank for 10 years and just can't see any reason to move. My credit cards are with different companies and I never really need to call the bank.
Nonetheless we'll give it a go

Slight negative is that the call centre seems to be in Scotland, so you have to talk to Scots.

I used to know a girl who worked there. Every 4 hours or so they would stop the phones, push a load of carts around with soft toys in, balls etc. Let them go mental for a few minutes chucking shit everywhere and blow of some steam and then back to it.

HSBC's is horrendous. You've got this little keypad you put a pin code in to then it generates a pass code for you to log in with as well as your other security questions. It's ridiculous.
It's bizarre that they own First Direct but have a worse internet banking system. And their customer service isn't rated as good either
