Turning off the Netgear, according to your description of your network, shouldn't have any bearing on your router. Unless all your devices are actually connecting to the Netgear wirelessly for some reason.

Keep the Netgear off, "forget" your network connection on your iPhone or other wireless device and rescan / rekey your credentials to ensure you're connecting to the router.

* Changed Wifi password
* Changed SSID
* Changed Channel
* Reset network settings
* Restored iPhone
* Turned WPA/WPA2 to just WPA - No joy
* Turned WEP on - no joy
* Disabled all encryption to make it an open password-less network - "Unable to Join" then swiftly followed by "Password is incorrect" I didn't even enter one!!!!

Fucking hell this is driving me insane.

Might be totally irrelevant, but can you join a public network? iCloud at a pub etc...?

Yeah I have attempted so far to join four networks.

1. Home network: NO
2. McDonalds Public: YES
3. Work network: YES
4. Girlfriends: NO

So currently operating a 50% success rate lol.

I had a search online Rob, but couldnt find it. It appears in a Plusnet thread that the firmware I have (8.4.4 something) is older.

There is a 10.x.x.x or simlar out. But can't seem to find where it is. Also not sure if I would be able to do that without messing it up as people started talking about ISP files and so forth

Ok so turns out Rob you could easily be an Apple support tech as all the steps you have taken me through it seems thats what they wanted me to test

Have now found my Personal Hotspot does not work either....

Looking increasingly like it might be the phone itself, dodgy aerial borking certain frequencies or something.

Pretty much exhausted the usual suspects from what I can tell:

* update phone to latest firmware / factory reset - done
* update router/wireless access point firmware / factory reset - not done, but in fairness probably wouldn't make any difference as there are three different devices your phone cannot connect to - your home router, your GF's router and your hotspot
* ensure any dual-band wireless access point has a different SSID per frequency (2.4ghz / 5ghz) - done, Technicolor router is only 2.4ghz, won't connect to that even if the Netgear is off
* ensure multiple wireless access points have different SSIDs - done, tried changing SSID and security protocol
* rule out channel interference - done, tried changing channel

Tried using the phone without a case?

Yeah tried no case.

I am just going to do one last ditch attempt at getting it to connect by power cycling the router and deleting network settings. Predict no change but what the hell.

Have you tried disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services.

This doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely, just some wonky wi-fi based geolocation feature.

Ok so new phone, one entry of the password and connected perfectly.

Seems the old one was a dead duck. I had noticed in the couple of days prior to getting the new phone that cellular data was now even slower and droping internet regularly.

The phone was messed up! So new phone and Wifi all connected.

Interestingly I restored from backup via iTunes and the problem came back

So smacked it into developer mode, wiped it, deleted all back ups from the PC, CCleaner. Deleted iTunes, Ccleaner, reboot.

Install iTunes, set up phone as new and hey presto working phone

Kind of sounds like the original phone wasn't dead after all, then.
