Time for another update!

Always wanted Engineered wood, but found this on offer in B&Q a few weeks ago:

9mm thick built in underlay underneath (still put additional stuff down) and the quality/look was great, so I went for it (also got staff discount as my Mrs brother works at screwfix)!

Games room:
Insulated and fixed pipes last year so I just re screwed the boards back down that I had removed for the plastering:

Additional underlay down:

Boards home:

Cut the majority of the frames so the flooring went underneath:

and started...

Hallways:

Kitchen:
Was going to tile the kitchen, but because of the cost and look of this flooring + saving £££ paying someone to tile it + the likelyhood of droping something on a tile and smashing it, I decided to board the kitchen as well!

After nearly a year after fitting the kitchen, I finally got round to fitting the kick boards & fancy trip/edge bits:

Main bedroom:

Still hadn't got round to carpeting this room, which is quite lucky as the B&Q own gloss had gone yellow. Stripped the room out and re glossed, baring in mind that this crown white gloss paints on yellow and dries white, it was still really noticeable! Shocking!!!

Done!

Underlay:

Nice thick fresh carpet (same as nursery):

Main lounge/diner:
The baby is due in 6 weeks, thought I better get the lounge done. Booked the plasterer in for 5 weeks time as that was the earliest he could do it. He phoned me last Thursday saying he can start Monday just gone. Shit just got real!

Main lounge emptied into games room:

Last Saturday - fixing low voltage fan transformers for the shower room & bathroom:
Good old Dad!

Boarded (can access it from the main hallway):

Ripping loose bits off last Saturday:

This picture was from Saturday night (had just finished reboarding one of the beams):

Sunday:
Had to replace the board on this beam

More render off...

Loose bricks!

Bricked back up at 11pm Sunday night:

Insulated the beam to prevent as much sound as possible as I had run out of sound & fire board!

Cleared up and started PVA'ing at 1am Monday morning:

Few hours sleep then back up at 5am to board round what would of been the old wooden window framework:

240v cables laid for sockets in the fire places + HDMI cables chased in from fireplace to top wall where the TV will be, plus a 240v socket for it:

Monday just gone and I had finished with an hour to spare!

They started rendering Monday:

and started gritting/plastering yesterday!:

Deffo back to work for a rest this week!

Flooring looks great, only this I notice is you don't seem to have left a lot of room for expansion? I know from recent experience that it does tend to expand a bit once down

Cheers guys!

Ian, was yours engineered or laminate? Because laminate is man made it doesn't expand/contract anywhere near as much as proper wood. That's what my mate told me anyway (he's a chippy).

Mark, would be nice but would cost me a fortune to buy all the flats!

Don't listen to your mate, even laminate needs a 10mm expansion gap ! I would be amazed if you don't end up with yours causes you problems, especially carrying it through the into different areas.. If you haven't beaded it yet i would be trimming some off, saves taking all the beading off further down the line..

I left a gap for my floor and it doesn't appear to have expanded at all. I haven't yet beaded the edges so can see it all.

Great job Chris, really impressed with the quality of your work.

So many times i've seen floors where the joins are all over the place, which is an ocd nightmare!

Yeah mine hasn't expanded either, I wouldn't worry about it.

I was also impressed by the quality of the work, the hall looks boss with the joints in a row, the simple things

Plasterer finished Friday!

Built a frame around the fireplace top to block that up:

Done!

Hung the radiators Sunday:

Have been wood worming in the evening this week, shit job and the gaps under the boards seem tiny in this room

Night off tonight, have the boards up under the rads ready to pipe up tomorrow!

Had the dehumidifier in all week, its nearly dried out now. Hopefully rub down wood work Friday and start painting at the weekend if all is dry! Also just need to fix the boars down and lay the MDF/Plywood to level the floors up (just remembered that!).

Have completely lost motivation with the last room! Seems to be taking forever!

Plaster dried out so piped the rads up last week and insulated:

Started filling the gaps up in the board and screwing them all down. Got through about 900screws IIRC:

Started laying the ply-board down to level the floors up last night (another 800+ screws), should have that finished tonight:

TV, sky box e.t.c. boxes fixed to wall (want all the holes drilled before paint):

Had the kitchen tiled Monday:

Luckily had 1 tile left over from the shower room (same style tile that went on the wall), so got him to put a tile behind the toilet/sink as its easy to splash up due to its size (still need to run a bead of while silicone):

Mrs refurbed a pine cabinet I got off my parents (before photos captured on a previous update somewhere):

Skirting board ordered which very almost matches the current stuff. Its for the round bit of the lounge and all the hallway. Should go unnoticed in the hallway as its wont be joining up to anything. Lounge it will, but it should be behind furniture so hoping it wont be too obvious, especially when its glossed.

That's it up to now. Need to concrete the fireplace floor so that's levelled up to the wooden floor (currently has big holes). She should be rubbing down the wood work tomorrow and I can start decoration tomorrow night after work. 3weeks until baby is due, really hoping its done in time. Should be done within the next 10days if all goes to plan.
