I'm hoping there will be some decent hardware/tech upgrades to the phone, as it might persuade me to make the jump.

And Apple's naming convention doesn't follow the product generation, so it's unlikely it'll be called iPhone 6 rather it'll either be 'iPhone 5' or go the same was as the iPad and it'll be simply called the 'iPhone'.

Technically yes but apple didnt call the 4s the 5 therefore i am referring to it as the 5.
The confirmed build number named by apple is also iPhone 5,1.

If the 3GS was counted as a separate installation then the 4S surely should be too. If the 3GS was the 3rd phone then the 4S must be the 5th.
If the next phone should be iPhone 5 that would make the iPhone 4S #4,5, which would make the 3GS #2,5 which would make the iPhone 4 #3 which would make the iPhone 4S #3,5. Ergo, the next iPhone will be called iPhone 4!!!!
Either way, it makes no difference, but it does seem seriously odd to me that the general consensus is that it's the 5th phone... Can't believe me and Lee are the only ones who can count.
Think Whittie is right in saying they'll call it the new iPhone.
