You unlock more locations as you play the game. The grand tour for instance unlocks about 5 more.

I played this over the weekend, for the first time, my thoughts.
Before i start the game is ok, but heres where i feel it fell short.
The physics, again they were ok, similar kind of level to forza really, still not up to par with the proper sims, on PC etc.
The graphics to me were a big let down, poor textures here and there, the standard cars look a bit naff, the premium marginally better, bland track design, bad lighting in places. However if you catch it right then it can look awesome, almost real life, but whats the point if that just happens at rare moments. Its either quite bad, or really good, unfortunately the really good doesnt happen as often as the quite bad.
The gameplay was almost as big a let down as the graphics. the game is shallow, ok loads of cars, quite a few locations, but the tuning side of it is shallow, i mean comfort tyres? sports tyres? wtf? fine if it wasnt marketted as a real driving simulator.
Also i couldnt find how to change the wheels on standard cars? can you do this?
Damage again was rubbish, im not that bothered about damage though as the aim of racing is not to crash. However apparently you can unlock better damage at level 40, that just seems odd to me, your car in real life doesnt suddenly stop being invincible after 10 years so wtf.
Car sounds again, pathetic.
Photomode on Forza wins hands down again.
X as default to accelerate bothered me, i know you can remap it but wtf were they thinking to have it as X, since when has the accelerator been an on/off switch.
Some plus points, game felt a lot better on the wheel, AI seemed a lot better this time round for a GT game, the Ring is modelled better then in Forza.
This is a good game, and iv tried to give my thoughts as honestly as possible as i was ready to go out and buy a PS3 if this game was amazing, but its not, its good. If i had a ps3 id buy it, but its not worth a console purchase. 8/10 seems fair.
Obviously most of you wont care as you already have it, but i thought my honest thoughts if anyone was thinking about doing what i did and buying a ps3 just for it. There is definately still a gap for a proper simulated console car game.

nearly all driving games i have played have had X as the accelerator?
agree with the cars not all sounding correct though.
gameplay though? i have played it probably 18 hours or so over the weekend and i just want to get back from work now and play it some more! so it is doing something right!

That's a major let down, it looks brilliant however but the sounds being totally un-realistic would be a let down for me.

Playstation controllers have pressure sensative buttons, so the X isn't actually on / off Steve. You can balance it, but you have to get used to how much pressure is required.
I do prefer though the control mapping on forza ... triggers for accel / brake make alot more sense.

yup, sounds fuck all like a scooby, but some cars are amazingly accurate, the mazda 787b, tuscan, cerbera, ek9 to name a few all sound amazing.
regarding the physics, steve did you pop everything on simulation and take all aids off?

yea, i was slightly dissapointed myself.
what me and paul did find out tho was if you put comfort soft tyres on and drive it takes alot more skill and is alot more reslistic with the speeds going round corners etc.

GT5 HAS NEVER MARKETED ITSELF AS A SIM
I've also lost hours of my life to it already no matter how good or bad it is, meaning it's doing really good at what games do.
