I imagine like in real life though, you encourage someone to go faster and faster they will drive beyond their limits and ultimately lose time

Right, nascar special events, daytona one that you go around the outside without hitting the cones, I've done it at least 100 times and I'm about to smash something up, so easy yet I can't do it, what's the trick?

Right im coming on.
John I found all of those really easy. On daytona lift off a tad before you turn in then floor it round? I kept doing it til I got a gold. You using a wheel?

stick very close to the cones, you need an analog input to be smooth on the steering.
i actually did that first time on the wheel

Nope... that explains why you've got problems mate.
Basically you have that blue - red bar down the bottom. This is how 'cool / stressed' your driver is.
If your driver is too stressed he'll drive like a twat and crash. If he's too cool he'll drive too slowly.
When you choose your driver initially it'll show their standard 'cool / stressed' ratio.
My B-Spec driver has a middle 'cool / stressed' ratio at the start.
The ultimate is to keep him somewhere in the middle of this chart. Neither stressed or too relaxed, I personally find slightly to the left of the middle in the side of cool is best.
Of course, the more badly he drives, the more stressed he'll get, and the more well he drives the cooler he'll get... ultimately though I've noticed if the driver gets stressed he'll drive like an absolute idiot and just crash instantly and thus end up being really slow... If he's relaxed he drives a lot better, while the other AI opponents make mistakes and he capitalises on it.
So... the trick is, to balance it near the middle, if in the red, tell him to calm down (even if he should be overtaking), if too far in the blue, tell him to speed up, if he's in the middle, tell him the maintain the pace.
Since he'll always get stressed at the start of the race, I start off by telling him to calm down on the grid constantly... all the way through the first lap calm down ... he'll overtake a few people and start going well and becoming too relaxed, so then I tell him to speed up... etc. If you do this and give him a fast enough car, he'll win easily.

Pauls got my car, taking his time. Although he reckons it will be quicker than his ferrari, I beg to differ. Well couldnt keep up with it on corners.

Yeah but no way I could keep up. I know he might be better at driving ON THIS GAME, (emphasis on the game), but like when we were both in M3s at least he couldnt get away like that.
