In the last week I ran the 1/4 mile and put my car on the rollers at a local RR day.

Best quarter time was 14.065 @ 101.92mph

Made 199.4 bhp @ fly, 147.9 @ wheels, with 142 lb ft of torque! I cant believe I lost over 50bhp through the transmittion but thats what I was told!

This is from my 1.6 16v on tb's....

if your peak power is high up the rev range then yes you'll lose alot compared to a car that peaks at 5500rpm. you got a graph of your power run?

do you have the same sort of mods as Andy H?

He has much more aggressive cams and a solid top end, also steel rods and high comp pistons. Which I dont....

I have a 8k rev limit and peak power was made at 7339. Got a pic of the graph at home, its basically a 45 degree line right up to 7339 when it tails off. I wont lose 25% through transmission. I'd say its really about 180 @ fly.

you'd be suprised. how much are you losing around 5500rpm. maybe 25hp.

also depends on the rollers as well.

Its goes down as fast as it came up, then tails off completely when soft cut is hit.

I think you're right Miles. I also loose 35 bhp with transmission losses at 7200rpm. So you should have 175 to 180 bhp, which is an excellent result

I'm more than happy with 175-180bhp, I'd be more than happy with whatever it put out to be honest, after getting a 14.0 I know it goes well enough

Miles - sounds about right - around 180bhp flywheel. I had exactly 180bhp when I had gentler cams in, 8k limit and normal compression ratio (before engine rebuild). Made a peak torque figure of around 135lb/ft. 180bhp in a Nova sounds like lots of fun
