Hi i have an 1994 L Reg Corsa 1.2 8v Merit with a 4 speed box i was told it was an F10 box and that vauxhall also made a 5 speed version. I struggle with motorway driving as i have no 5th gear to bring the revs down to cruise in does anyone know if the 5 speed version would work with my engine and if it would be advantageous to do this conversion??

i did it..... makes a hell of a difference on the motor way........ car doesnt sound like a moped at 60 MPH anymore.

4 speed... how harsh is that... get the 5-speed in there buddy.. altho it wont be a cheap job

cost me €120(£70).... for that i got the gearbox, 2 driveshafts, 2 inner cv's 2 outer cv's and the gearlinkage right up to the gear stick, cutch and flywheel.... oh and ummmm distributor and leads....

done all the work myself mind.

yeh but you see it that way cos ya diy everything...

some people wouldnt have a clue how to change a wheel

gearbox is straight forward enough.. its just one of them jobs that a pain in the arse.

will i need new drive shafts and that or will its be a straight swap surely vauxhall didnt re design everything for the LS model just because of 5 speed maybe i am wrong anyone shed any light on this situation?

nah all u need is the box and the gear linkage including the gearstick assembly.

if you use an f13 box though u may need to change the clutch and flywheel cos the splines may be drifferent.

i just used an f10 5 speed so didnt need to change the clutch.
