I dudes ive just bough a cav turbo with a bad knocking on number4 cylinder and a missfire on same cylinder, also when dipstick is removed pressure in crankcase,im assuming piston or rings problems.
Im currently running a 2L red top in my corsa and was wondering instead of overhauling the turbo lump,to take off all revelent bits an turn my 2L red top in corsa into turbo.
Ive heard its quite easy, as any one done this or heard owt what needs to be changed over.
Cheers guys!!

You can do it. But you will need to swap just about ever part over other than the head, block, crank and valves. It ain't easy and apparently you get a lower power engine at the end of the day. Your better off spending the couple of hundred to get the LET up to scratch again.

You no owt bout the gearbox is the 6 speed better and would u use it or use the 5 speed im already runnin with my 2L red top?
Can u get as much speed out of the 5 speed as the 6 speed are the ratios same?

Its not hard to change an XE to a LET if you have a doner engine.
You just need to change the pistons, cams (or just exhaust cam) and the manifolds, and obviously the loom and ecu.
You'll also need to sort out an oil return for the turbo, which normally goes into the engine block just above the sump, but for ease you could get the sump tapped instead.
Do a compression test.
Its probably better to rebuild the LET and then transplant the engine, as its probably the same work to sort out the rings on the LET as it is to change the pistons on the XE....

The 6 speed is much better. The 5 speed might not last very long, the 6 speed will let you cruise at lower revs, which is good and keeps you off boost at higher speeds which is obviously good for fuel economy.
Top speed is probably from the 6 speed, altough its probably more about bravery (stupidity) power and the road.

A 6 speed will top out somehwere near the 160mph mark and the 5 speed will top out at around 145-150mph...

The point in the 6 speed is really to have closer ratio gears to get good aceleration but still keep the top speed though.

If you have the power to get to the limiter in 6th its a fair bit more than 160mph.
Never been anywhere near either of those figures in my Calibra though, but I think it will do an easy 160mph. 130 is a breeze.

152mph is factory top speed for the Calibra, I think the Cav turbo is less due to the poorer aerodynamics.
Phase 3 does help mine though

Yea, that is the factory top speed, but I have heard from a few people that they do go a bit more than that... Phase 4 would be even more helpful

Who knows, its not very often you go there anyway. Speedo's are inaccurate as well of course.
