hey there.

tried jump starting the GSI which has not been started for 6 months.
C16xe engine.

as soon as you connect the jump leads up it drains all the power from me mums new astra and then starts to smoke ( the leads).

cant charge the battery, any one know what the prob could be?
my friend seems to think i need a new starter motor?
any suggestions.

the battery is probably so fucked it cant take it, will deffo need a new battery even if you do get it to run on that on,

how thick are the leads your using??

u might need the heavy duty leads.
try someone else's cable..

if its not that, its a poor battery like said.

yer cheers dudes, got a new batt here so gonna try that tomorrow.

the leads were heavy duty, there lorry ones or something me mate said.

we'll i'll try the new batt and come back tomorrow nite if no change.

u did connect them the rite way round didnt you, + to + and - to -

I know someone who did it + to - and it started to drain the battery and melted the clamps

just stuck a new battery on and as soon as i connect the last terminal it sparks BIG time.

deffinatly - to - and + to +.

it's shorting out somewhere and have no idea where.

any one have any ideas
mates says it's a knackered starter motor?

yea check they were the right way round as the colours aernt what you think they should be and you'll burn the insulation on some of your earth straps etc if theyre not

i agree, probly starter motor. If its fucked it could be shorting out inside causing the problem you're gettin...
